Let's not pretend this is about truth. It never was. If humans truly craved wisdom, we'd all be quoting Lao Tzu, journaling like Marcus Aurelius, and navigating risk with Nassim Taleb's playbook tucked under our arm. But we don't.
Instead, we quote Orwell. We reference Brave New World like it's a UX case study. We assign The Handmaid's Tale in civics class—then vote for laws that mirror it.
Why? Because Orwell and company made it easy. They didn't give us poetry. They gave us instructions.
The wise told us, "Flow like water." The prophets said, "Here's where to put the drain."
The IKEA Effect of Fictional Tyranny
Have you ever tried assembling your life based on Taoist principles? It's like trying to decode a cloud using only a flashlight and a riddle. But Orwell? Orwell gave us blueprints, color-coded diagrams, and slogans that slap.

Corporations didn't misinterpret 1984. They simply streamlined it. Governments didn't misunderstand Brave New World. They rebranded it.
Meanwhile, the Stoics offered us nuance. The Taoists gave us metaphors. The systems thinkers provided probability clouds. Useful? Absolutely. Deployable by middle managers? Not a chance.
So we built what we understood. And what we understood were the warnings—not as limits, but as specs.

The prophets gave us clarity. The wise gave us ambiguity. The world rewarded clarity.
We didn’t follow the loud because they yelled. We followed them because they packaged the future. And in a world addicted to optimization, guess what gets built?The thing with the clearest path to MVP.
